What Synapse Does
Synapse is an AI-powered learning app that turns PDFs, articles, YouTube videos, and text into flashcards and quizzes.
We collect only minimal data required to operate the app. Optional features may use analytics or AI processing when enabled.
Data We Collect
Data You Provide
- Account info (email, name when signing in with Google)
- Learning content (flashcards, quizzes, study materials)
- Study progress (answers, reviews, session history)
- App settings (theme, reminders, goals)
Data Collected Automatically
- User ID — Random anonymous identifier for local data storage. Resettable upon account deletion. Not linked to personal identity.
- IP address (for security, fraud prevention, rate limiting)
- Subscription status (to enable premium features)
Optional Data (You Control)
You can enable/disable anytime in Profile → Privacy:
- Analytics events
- Crash reports
- Push notification tokens
- Cloud sync data
How We Use Your Data
We use your data only to:
- Create and manage learning content
- Run spaced repetition for better memory retention
- Sync data across devices (if enabled)
- Send study reminders (if enabled)
- Fix crashes and improve stability (if enabled)
- Analyze usage to improve features (if enabled)
- Verify premium subscriptions
Optional Services
All services below are disabled by default. No data is sent until you turn them on.
Firebase SDKs are not initialized until you give explicit consent in Profile → Privacy.

You can disable them anytime in Profile → Privacy.
AI Processing
When you generate learning content:
- Your input (PDF, URL, text, YouTube link) is sent to Google Vertex AI (Gemini)
- The AI returns generated flashcards and questions
- Inputs are processed in real-time and are not stored beyond processing
- Your data is not logged for profiling and not used for model training
- Your data is never used for advertising
Third-Party Services
- Supabase — stores your account and learning data
- Firebase (Google) — optional analytics, crashes, notifications
- Google Sign-In — authentication
- Google Vertex AI — AI content generation
- Google Play Billing — subscription payments (we never access card data)
Data Retention
- Learning data → Until you delete your account
- Study progress → Until you delete your account
- App settings → Stored locally until uninstall
- Analytics / crash data → Until you disable or revoke consent
- Cloud sync data → Until sync is disabled
All personal data is permanently deleted immediately when you delete your account.
Your Rights
You can:
- Access your data (export from Settings)
- Edit your data inside the app
- Delete your account anytime
- Export your data
- Withdraw consent for any service
- Complain to your local data protection authority
Account Deletion
You can delete your account anytime:
- In app: Profile → Settings → Delete Account
- Online: https://synapse-app.netlify.app/delete-account.html
Deletion is permanent and immediate. All data is deleted right away.
Security
- Encryption — All data encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+)
- Access Control — You only see your own data
- Authentication — Secure JWT / OAuth 2.0

Children's Privacy
Synapse is not intended for users under 13.
We do not knowingly collect data from children. If this happens, contact synapse.app.ai@gmail.com and we will delete it immediately.

We may update this policy from time to time. Major changes will be posted inside the app.
